JUNE 2021 UPDATE:

The Lithuanian Student Tennis Championship is over, I found out about the event and am sharing photos. Our VU tennis team takes first and second places in the championship and we have been winning it by a big difference for 4 years in a row! We become champions among students in Lithuania.

The Lithuanian Student Tennis Championship took place under unfavorable conditions

Although a pandemic is raging in our country, which has suspended Lithuanian students’ sports activities in their free time, Vilnius University tennis head coach Vigandas Telksnys and VGTU coach Vitalijus Podlužnas with the help of the Lithuanian Student Sports Association organized the Lithuanian Student Tennis Championship.

The championship was attended by the strongest and highest rated 27 students, tennis players from 6 Lithuanian universities. Among them – 12 women and 15 men. Tennis matches took place on four courts of the Baltic Tennis Center.

Lithuanian students and tennis lovers were happy with the championship organized by the Lithuanian Student Sports Association, the team winners of which were Vilnius University tennis players for the fourth year in a row. They scored 109 points and were awarded a team transition cup. Vilnius Gediminas Technical University with 65 points was in second place, and Lithuanian Sports University with 62 points was in third place.

The University of Vilnius, one of the oldest and most famous establishments of higher education in Eastern and Central Europe, was founded in 1579. Functioning for a long time as the only school of higher learning in Lithuania, it was a preserver of cultural and scientific traditions, and has played a significant part in the cultural life not only of Lithuania, but the neighboring countries as well. During more than four centuries of its existence, the University of Vilnius has seen periods of growth and decline, revival, and closure. The University is a unique witness to the history of the Lithuanian state.

Here are photos of coach Telksnys and the Vilnius University tennis team.

Here are some pictures of our recent tournament winners at the Ambassador Club Druskininkai.

One of our junior winners proudly displays his trophy in front of a picture of Lithuanian-American professional tennis player Vitas Gerulaitis (1954-1994).

We cherish tennis in Lithuania, and my activities and achievements reflect the leadership and knowledge obtained through the National Tennis Academy.
